Pawan Kalyan has revealed that he was named at the Lord Yoga Narasimha Temple of Tirumala Devasthanams, where he was named ‘Shri Kalyan Kumar’. Later, when he started school, the ‘Shri’ was removed from his name, and with the addition of the family surname, it became ‘K. Kalyan Kumar’.
Pawan Kalyan underwent rigorous martial arts training before entering the film industry. There is an interesting story behind the addition of the word ‘Pawan’ to his name. In fact, during his training days, he lifted a weight of about 450 kilograms on his chest to demonstrate his strength. Moreover, during this demonstration, stone slabs were also broken on his chest.
Seeing this remarkable strength of his, one of his martial arts teachers was deeply impressed. Comparing him to Lord Hanuman, the teacher said, “You are like Hanuman – Hanuman, the son of the wind.” The teacher then added ‘Pawan’ to his name, changing him from ‘Kalyan Kumar’ to ‘Pawan Kalyan’.
