Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has received a huge relief from the Madras High Court. The High Court has allowed him to distribute government appointment letters to the families of the victims of the stampede. CM Vijay will visit the stampede on Friday. However, the High Court said that the job will be temporary and it will be decided later. A bench of Justices CV Karthikeyan and R Shakthivel said that till the matter is heard, the people will not get their salaries.
The court has asked the state government to file a report on the proposed appointments. It has also been said that all the rules have been followed. At least 41 people died in the stampede incident that took place last year. CM Vijay will distribute appointment letters to the families of 32 of them. He will meet the families of the 41 people who died in the violence that took place during a Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) rally on September 27, 2025 and offer them a condolence visit.
Opposition from Left parties
CM Vijay will meet the victim’s family and issue him a government job appointment letter on compassionate grounds. The Left parties, which support the government externally, have strongly opposed this decision to give government jobs to the victim.
He has already given Rs 20 lakh as compensation to the victim
The Supreme Court has handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI. Vijay may also be called to Delhi many times for questioning in the case. Earlier, Vijay had already given Rs 20 lakh as assistance to the victim’s family. In addition, he has met him at a resort near Mahabalipuram. The DMK, AIADMK and BJP directly blamed him for the incident. The TVK said that the conspiracy of the then DMK government was responsible for this.
