The India-UK Free Trade Agreement will come into effect from July 15. After this, 90% of goods manufactured in India will be exported to Britain at zero tariff. On the other hand, 99% of goods will be imported to the UK at an average tariff of 3%. British cars, whisky, clothes, footwear will become cheaper in India after 7 days. Bilateral trade is likely to double to $120 billion by 2030.
After 14 rounds of talks over the past three years, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and UK Trade Minister Jonathan Reynolds signed the agreement on July 24, 2025 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Trade and companies of both countries now have less than a month to prepare before the implementation of this trade agreement. India-based British High Commissioner Lindi Cameron wrote in X, the free trade agreement will come into effect from July 15. This is a historic moment in the bilateral relationship between India and the UK. It will bring economic innovation to both countries.
