If you already have 9 mobile connections in your name, then it will not be easy to get a 10th SIM from now on. The Department of Telecommunications has given new instructions to telecom companies. From August 24, a person who already has 9 SIMs in his name will not be given a new SIM. Not only this, the Department of Digital Intelligence Platform or DIP will be used for this verification. From August 23, a representative picture of the photo of a customer with 9 connections will be available on DIP. Telecom companies will download this information every day and identify the person coming to get a new SIM card. And they will not be given a 10th SIM. The government’s aim with this rule is to prevent people from having more mobile numbers in their names and to monitor the misuse of SIMs. In most parts of the country, the limit for purchasing SIMs is 9, while in Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and the North-East it is 6. Meanwhile, telecom companies have been asked to implement this system in real-time in the process of issuing new SIMs by November 30. So it is better to check how many SIMs are active in your name.
Telecom companies will stop issuing new SIMs from August 24. The Department of Telecommunications has directed telecom service providers to make technical and organizational arrangements from August 24, 2026 to verify the details of existing mobile numbers in the names of people taking new connections. If the system detects that the customer has reached the maximum limit, then the company will not have to issue a new SIM. The customer will also be informed that he has the maximum number of mobile connections in his name.
If suddenly more mobile connections than the prescribed limit are turned on, then the connection may be suspended for one day immediately while the matter is resolved. This will be done as per the terms of the ‘Customer Application Form’. The DOE said that the objective of this step is to ensure that customers stay within the prescribed limit and telecom operators comply with the rules.
