The Indian men’s cricket team is facing an unusual issue ahead of its departure for the 20th Asian Games in Japan. The team, led by Shreyas Iyer, is scheduled to travel from New Delhi to Nagoya tomorrow (Sunday) morning. However, the team has encountered a peculiar problem regarding the correct sizing of the players’ jerseys and kits. Given the seriousness of the matter, continuous discussions are underway between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), and JSW Inspire, the official kit supplier. The dilemma of two different kits and sizes—Indian cricketers will have to wear two distinct types of jerseys during this tour. On September 22, Team India is scheduled to play a T20 match against Japan, for which the players will wear the BCCI jersey. However, the cricket event at the Asian Games begins on September 28, where players will wear the official Asian Games kit prescribed by the IOA.
Issues regarding sizing have arisen due to the requirement for two different kits; nevertheless, most of these issues have been resolved, and the remaining kits will be provided to the players shortly. The concerns of most players have now been addressed, and the remaining kits are expected to reach the team very soon. Why did the BCCI book the hotel itself? Due to the absence of a ‘Sports Village’ in Nagoya, athletes are being accommodated in cruise ships, hotels, and container-style housing, where many Indian athletes have had to wait for hours to get their rooms. While the women’s cricket team is staying in accommodation arranged by the IOA, the quarters provided for the men’s team were extremely cramped. The situation was such that there was no space in the room to even store the cricketers’ bulky kit bags. Given these circumstances, the BCCI intervened immediately and arranged private hotel accommodation on its own before the team departed for Japan, ensuring that the players’ rest and practice schedules would not be disrupted. Team India’s Asian Games Schedule: Team India aims to retain the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. The Indian team will play directly in the quarter-finals. This match will commence at 10:00 AM (IST). If India advances to the semi-finals, they will take the field on October 1.
