High-Level Probe Demanded Into TBPM’s Negligence & Multi-Crore Printing Waste

The government has taken strict action in the textbook incident for classes 1 to 8. Disciplinary action has been taken against 6 people, including former director Manoj Padhi, 3 assistant directors and others. But now the allegations have surfaced, who will reimburse the crores of rupees spent on children’s books? The responsibility of printing was given to a private printing press for Rs 21 crore, despite the existence of a government printing press. The responsibility of DTP was given to a private vendor. The money spent on all this is a waste of money. Now, educationists and guardians have demanded that this money be recovered from them in full, not as a fine.

On the other hand, an important allegation has been made that government textbooks are being printed in the Directorate of Textbook Production and Marketing (TBPM). It was decided to print 29.8 million textbooks this year. With all the modern machines available in TBPM, it is possible to print such a large number of books. Only 20 percent of the textbooks were printed here and the remaining 80 percent was outsourced to other private companies. The manuscripts received from SCERT for textbook printing should be checked at the primary level in TBPM. There is also a special proofreading section here for this purpose. A deputy director is in charge of it. He will check all the manuscripts, if any mistake is detected, he will immediately inform SCERT. But the proofreading section will not be opened here.

The officer in charge of this is not doing proofreading. This textbook error has also raised questions about the responsibility of the TBPM officials. Some officials of the department have asked why action will not be taken against the TBPM officials. Even the plates that are prepared before printing were given to an outside vendor, said an official.
