Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the country’s first LNG-powered train from Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Railway Station. During the event, several railway projects for the Sabarmati Division were inaugurated, and foundation stones were laid for others. Railway projects worth over ₹1,542 crore were gifted to Gujarat.
The ‘Kavach’ system has been implemented across a 404-kilometer-long rail section at a cost of approximately ₹411 crore. Automatic Block Signaling has been introduced on a 122.57-kilometer-long rail section. A WAG-12 locomotive maintenance shed, constructed at a cost of ₹700 crore, was also inaugurated. Work will be undertaken to double the approximately 21-kilometer-long Sabarmati-Sarkhej railway section at a cost of ₹313.27 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the development projects, worth over ₹1,542 crore, would prove highly significant for both passengers and the region’s railway network. These projects include the establishment of a locomotive maintenance hub, the implementation of the ‘Kavach’ safety system, and track doubling work.
Amit Shah mentioned that he has frequently disembarked at Sabarmati railway station while traveling from Delhi. He congratulated the railway officials and the entire team for the transformation the station has undergone over the past few years. Shah said, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the entire team, from the Sabarmati Railway Division to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Seeing the Sabarmati station in this new avatar after so long is truly special.”
