The HPCL Rajasthan Refinery (HRRL) at Pachpadra in Balotra district of Rajasthan will not only meet the country’s energy needs, but it is also a unique example of modern engineering and construction. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to inaugurate this mega project, which is being built with a huge investment of about Rs 79,459 crore, for the people of the country today. The construction work of this huge project has been a surprise to everyone. About 1.5 crore cubic meters of soil have been removed during the construction of the project, which is equivalent to filling about 15,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
According to official data, this excavation is about 6 times more than the construction of the famous ‘Giza Pyramids’ in Egypt. 1.6 million cubic meters of concrete have been used in it, which is about 5 times more than the concrete used in the construction of the world’s tallest building ‘Burj Khalifa’. About 3 lakh metric tonnes of steel have been used, which is 40 times the weight of the Eiffel Tower. Similarly, 28 thousand km of cables have been laid throughout the entire complex, which is more than twice the diameter of the Earth. The 125-metre-high ‘Coke Dome’ built in the refinery is its biggest attraction, which is almost three times larger than the famous Round Dome.
New revolution in employment and industry:
This project has provided direct employment to about 35 thousand people during the construction period, while about 1 lakh indirect jobs have been created in transportation, machinery and other allied sectors. After the implementation of this project, a new ecosystem of petrochemical and plastic industries will be created in western Rajasthan. This will give a big boost to industries like MSME, packaging, textiles, auto parts and agri-films. On the other hand, the much-awaited refinery inauguration faced a major challenge late last night. All the arrangements were disrupted due to a severe storm at the venue. Many large hoardings and banners were torn down and destroyed. It is worth noting that the inauguration was earlier scheduled for April 21, but it had to be postponed due to a fire in the refinery premises. However, the administration is making all the preparations on a war footing.
