AI Deepfake Menace: Bollywood Actress Preity Zinta Moves Court Over Viral Fake Videos

While technology and AI offer many benefits, they also have some downsides. The concern is that AI can create fake images, videos or other morphed content to damage a person’s reputation. Many celebrities have demanded a ban on the unauthorized use of AI-generated content to protect their privacy. Now Preity Zinta has joined the list.

According to reports, actress Preity Zinta has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking removal of deepfake images and morphed content generated by AI from various social media and online platforms. The court has requested the court to restrain the posting of any content featuring her without her permission – especially, content in which she is seen and for which she has not given consent.

However, after hearing brief arguments on Friday, a single-judge bench headed by Justice Madhav Jamdar directed all parties, including the online platform, to devise a mechanism to remove objectionable content from the website. The court has posted the next hearing for July 6.
