Delhi-Guangzhou Flight Resumption: How India-China Relations Are Changing Rapidly

Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Delhi. Amidst this, significant and positive news regarding India-China relations has emerged: the New Delhi-Guangzhou flight service, which had been suspended for the past six years, is set to resume. China Southern Airlines has announced that flight operations between the two countries will restart on September 21. According to the airline, approximately 100 flights will be operated during the first week of the service’s resumption. It is worth noting that flight services between New Delhi and Beijing, as well as between Kolkata and Kunming, were also restored last April. Relations had soured after the Galwan Valley clash:

Bilateral relations between the two countries deteriorated significantly following the clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley. However, the situation has improved somewhat after multiple rounds of talks and the de-escalation of troops along the Eastern Ladakh border. It is now expected that President Jinping’s visit to India will further strengthen bilateral ties.

Jinping arriving with a large delegation:

In addition to attending the BRICS summit, President Jinping will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to reports, he is accompanied by a delegation of approximately 400 members. The delegation includes Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that China will work with the leaders of both countries based on a strategic and long-term perspective. China is committed to moving forward by resolving differences and acting as a cooperative partner and good neighbor.
